David Cameron communist propaganda poster photographed in Brighton (May 2013)
I spotted this satirical poster of David Cameron on the streets of Brighton and thought it was very effective and clever.
The colours and style mimic iconic propaganda posters. This poster shows to join the Prime minster ‘Chairman Cameron’ to the ‘long march to growth’ with global companies featured on the poster (TESCO, McDONALDS and RBS etc) The bold title ‘Comrades’ is important in this artwork as this word defines a colleague or a fellow member of an organisation, a fellow socialist or communist. The word Comrade features heavily in the book 1984 by George Orwell.
I personally think the style relates to the famous propaganda posters of Mao Zedong who was commonly known as ‘Chairman Mao’ He was a Chinese communist leader and founder of the People’s Republic of China.
Unfortunately the artist is unknown but it’s very clear of the artists’ feelings and emotions towards the UK government.
