The Heliocentrics - Collateral Damage

Heard this piece on Tuesday night on the Jamie Cullum show on BBC radio 2. The album, 13 Degrees of Reality, took about 4 years to make due to Malcom Catto’s extensive schedule as a session musician.

DeeB - Thru Clouds

Nice chilled jazz hip-hop.

Found DeeB on the Free Music Archive. Cool place to find music if you want to find something new.

Donald Byrd - Cristo Redentor

Nice jazz tune by the late Donald Byrd. Sadly I discovered this due to his death, but nevertheless a great track and will be digging more.

Fat Freddy’s Drop - This Room

Apparently this version is as heard on Gilles Peterson’s BBC Sessions. Personally this is the version I prefer, although many comments seem to suggest otherwise. The acoustic intro with the offbeat electronics and echo sounds give this version a slightly more dreamy sombre tone. The bass that comes in around 1.50 is a fine example of how music should have an element of the unexpected in it.

Another FFD tune which has lots of dynamic and influences, including Dallas Tamaira’s soulful voice.

Miles Davis - ‘Round Midnight
